Sip and Sprint Coffee exists to fuel everyday runners and busy people with specialty coffee that keeps them moving. For Sip and Sprint Coffee owner, Jose, this brand is deeply personal because it represents a journey from instant coffee to truly understanding everything that goes into an exceptional cup.
Medellín: coffee and a marathon
This past September, a dream vacation took me to Medellín, Colombia, with one big goal at the end: run the Maratón Medellín on my last day in the city. The entire trip became a perfect blend of two passions, coffee and running, as I explored neighborhoods like El Poblado, Envigado and Itagüí between training runs. Each morning and afternoon meant another café stop, another cup, and another chance to learn.
Discovering specialty cafés
While in Medellín, I spent a lot of time in El Poblado drinking fantastic coffee at shops like Pergamino, Hija Mía, and Sere. Each café had its own vibe, but they all cared deeply about origin, processing, and brewing, which was very new to someone used to drinking instant coffee. Sitting there with a cup in hand, surrounded by the city’s mountains, I started to realize just how much I had been missing.
Visiting Café Corazón de León
The highlight of the trip, and honestly a turning point in my coffee journey, was a solo tour of a coffee farm called Café Corazón de León in Itagüí. Being the only visitor on the tour meant I could ask endless questions about every stage of the process. Walking between coffee plants, seeing the drying beds, and tasting the final cup on the farm made the entire chain from seed to sip feel real and meaningful.

Learning the craft from seed to cup
On the farm, I learned how coffee is grown, how to recognize cherries damaged by pests, and how farmers stop that damage from spreading to protect the harvest. I saw how beans are carefully dried, then roasted to highlight different flavor notes rather than just “strong” or “weak.” We also talked through different brewing methods, like pour-over, French press, and others, and the pros and cons of each depending on body, clarity, and convenience.

A new standard for my coffee
My guide asked how I usually drink my coffee, and I proudly said “medium” until I admitted it had always been instant coffee up to that point. She was genuinely disappointed, in the best possible way, and it was the nudge I needed. Hearing her talk about the care, labor, and tradition behind every bean made it impossible to go back to treating coffee as an afterthought.
